Creeping collectivist nanny state strikes again.

Your tax dollars at work. *Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated that all consumers in the United States must purchase at least 4 gallons of gasoline when they go to the gas station, if they are getting fuel from a pump that also offers a new E15 ethanol-gasoline blend. The Obama administration wants consumers to use more of the E15 fuel – a blend that contains 15 percent ethanol – but the problem is that many gas stations use blender pumps, which offer several types of fuel and, after pumping, there always is a residual amount of fuel in the hose. E15 fuel can poten... more »

Praxis: 2-1-3 lacing for boots.

Dutchman6 at Sipsey Street Irregulars - 1 hour ago
A genuflection and tip of the boonie hat to Stephen, who writes: *Mister Vanderboegh, At the risk of opening up a can of all things foot-related, I can say that I used to have gawdawful problem with rubbing at the back of the foot, which would wear out both the inside of the heel of the boot and a whole boatload of socks until I discovered the "2-1-3" lacing technique. See, e.g., this if you're unfamiliar: http://www.nicksboots.com/faq.asp#2-1-3 (They recommend it for "instep bite", but I find it really helps lock the heel of my foot to the heel of the boot) Take it for what it... more »

Elmer Fudd strikes again.

Dutchman6 at Sipsey Street Irregulars - 2 hours ago
Texas Hunter Education, or “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Fudds”. *The term “Fudd” is derived, of course, from the Elmer Fudd, the hunter in the Looney Tunes cartoons. And in Pennsylvania, it’s used to describe a certain kind of person. Specifically, one who believes the only purpose for firearms is hunting, that the only acceptable type of rifle is the kind their pappy gave them in the 1960s (and that all others should be illegal) and is generally intolerant of change. In other words, a crotchety old fart. Perfect example from back in Pennsylvania: I was with my shooting team ... more »

A Message for the Generals

Arctic Patriot at The Arctic Patriot - 3 hours ago
A Grim Message for the Generals. *There’s a reason why Barack Obama is mistrusted in the ranks of the military services. He doesn’t smell of the hive, and it shows. Bees recognize a hostile intruder when they see one, and so do soldiers, sailors and Marines.* *Many of these soldiers, sailors and Marines feel betrayed by the senior officers of the services, beginning with the commander in chief. The old customs and traditions that have held the services together through war and peace have been scorned and trashed, replaced with the politically correct attitudes and regulations that ... more »

Some Training Resources for Groups and Individuals

Arctic Patriot at The Arctic Patriot - 5 hours ago
If you train with a group here are a few good resources. I ran across my hardcopies while unpacking the boxes and boxes of books we brought from AK. Mixed in with these FMs, and titles such as Fry The Brain: The Art of Urban Sniping and its Role in Modern Guerrilla Warfare and Resistance to Tyranny: A Primer were titles such as those from Dr. Seuss and various Little Golden Books...yeah, you remember those. Don't deny it. What can I say? I'm a dad! Anyway, here are some free .pdf files: FM 7-8 Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad (Know this book as it might be applied to your group... more »

A Closer Look at "Combat Light"

Arctic Patriot at The Arctic Patriot - 7 hours ago
Mosby discusses these links from WRSA. I like Mosby's point about carrying a minimal ruck with sustainment gear over strapping all that junk to one's LBE. I would add that "Combat Light" *will kill the majority of people* in some of the conditions I have trained in, and I'm not just saying that to sound like I've "been there done that". I have trained in the arctic and subarctic, and I can say without hesitation that* you will die if you are not prepared*, and that carrying the right gear into the cold can save *hours *of exhausting and noisy work that a person would need to do to ... more »

Tritium AR Iron Sights

Arctic Patriot at The Arctic Patriot - 15 hours ago
I have to say, after putting this front sight and this rear sight on my AR pistol, I am sold on tritium sights in low-light conditions. Sight alignment is merely a matter of putting the small green dot (front sight post) in between the two large fuzzy ones (on the rear sight). I went with the folding rear sight to accommodate a (future) red dot system on the pistol. The usefulness of these sights, and the advantages of tritium over standard irons became apparent during a recent local field trip. As for Troy's "DOA" system, I find that the long-range aperture is harder for me t... more »

How Much Weight?

Arctic Patriot at The Arctic Patriot - 21 hours ago
How much weight does a human *really* need to be able to lift up off the floor? Off the rack? On his shoulders? Over his head? I've heard those questions more than once. My answer is pretty simple. *More than I did last time. * That's what it is about, at least for me. * *
